Acceptance/refusal of the call
Little did I know that my parents would not be so easily convinced. My parents always thought that art was a nice hobby of mine but nothing I could make a career out of. My father gave me an ultimatum. It was either I majored in nursing when I went to college or he refused to pay for my college tuition. My hopes and dreams were all broken in that moment and I felt defeated. At the end of my senior year of high school I decided that I had no other choice but to obey my father’s request and major in nursing. I attended college at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and tested into honors. I got a full ride scholarship were I took honors and nursing classes. In my first semester I ended up failing anatomy, my first nursing prerequisite. This was due to a lack of communication on the behalf of the new professor they had hired that semester and a total indifference I had to the subject. This caused my GPA to drop below the required 3.25 GPA minimum that I had to have to keep my honors scholarship. After being dropped out of the honors program and failing my first class ever, I felt like this was a sign that nursing was not where I was supposed to be. I decided that I would persuade my parents and start the next semester majoring in art.
My parents were not pleased with my decision and I refused to go back to nursing. My father refused to pay for my tuition and from that moment I was on my own. The second semester of my freshmen year I went to school part-time because that was all I could afford with my part-time job. It was also at this time that my parents decided to get a divorce. My world was spinning out of control and my life wasn’t the way I wanted it to be. The next year during my sophomore year I only took one class a semester. I couldn't deal with all the problems in my life, let alone focus on school so I began to shut down. I needed time to heal emotionally and refocus my life.
